Description
- Here's what I do know and what I think about these beads. Maybe you can learn from this, and I'd also like to learn from you if you have any knowledge of, or ideas about, these beads. What I know:
- They came to me from a collection of mostly African trade beads
- They are strung on raffia which is typical of older African strands
- The color is an amazing rich turquoise
- Why I don't think these are antique or vintage African trade beads?
- The surface is too shiny, not showing the subtle wear of decades or centuries that leaves a semi-matte or matte finish
- Many of the beads are chipped, but most of the damage looks new.
- What they remind me of: relatively new Indian glass beads made for decorating animals (cattle, buffaloes, camels, elephants, etc) in processions or festivals
- But I could be wrong... Let me know what you think - or buy them and enjoy them if you think they are a great deal. For the right person they could be a bargain no matter their age, origin or condition - you can't argue with the color!
- If they are not bought soon I will probably move them to the Glass Beads collection and/or offer the best beads individually.
