- Peacock color oblate (slightly flattened round) shape pearls, 4x5mm on 14-inch strand.
- Very nice silky nacre on these beads with very uniform oblate shapes.
- The iridescent color is a coppery with green highlights
- The name peacock references the shimmering iridescent hues of a peacock's tail.
- In pearls it can range from a light blue tinged silver to darker greys with coppery highlights.
- Pearls are formed inside bivalves (similar to oysters), which coat any foreign substance that gets inside their shell with a smooth layer of pearly nacre to eliminate the irritation. This coating of grows over time increasing the pearl's size and luster. The color is influenced by minerals in the water, although some very dark peals may have been treated with gamma rays to darken the nucleus.
- The Chinese cultured some pearls in the 12th or 13th century, but the Japanese developed it into an industry in the 1890s, inserting mother-of-pearl beads as the basis of their cultured Pearls.
