Slightly graduated strand of Sugilite rondells 5-6mm diameter, with thickness varying from 2-4mm. The necklace weighs 22 grams.
Sugilite is extremely rare, and purple color is almost never found these days.
I collected these in the 1980s and am finally letting them go
The stone is named after the Japanese geologist who discovered it in 1944. Since then its fame and desirability have reached mythic proportions, due largely to its rarity, and fascination for the gemological and metaphysical communities.
Small quantities have been found in Japan and Canada but most of the material coming on the market today is from very deep manganese mines in South Africa. Sadly these stones tend to be very dark to almost black in color.
Robert Simmons declares: "Sugilite is one of the premier stones for this age, because of its numerous beneficial properties. Among them are protection from negative influences...enhancement of one's ability to ground spiritual energies, awakening the crown chakra...and a strong influence for healing."
