Description

  • Vintage (1992) Tagua nut and coconut shell necklaces from Indonesia
  • Also known as "vegetable ivory" tagua nut are not actually nuts, but rather the seeds of the Tagua tree, native to South American, but now apparently also growing in Indonesia and the Philippines, where the coconut shell is from.
  • This can be worn as necklace ready to wear, but I don't recommend it. It's strung on fishing line, one of the few materials for bead stringing available at the time and as a little brass screw clasp that's not very secure.
  • Consider making your own earrings, bracelet or necklaces instread, possibly with a hint of brass or silver too..
  • For one that's already partially taken apart see ORW-269
