  • The New Beadwork, by Kathlyn Moss and Alice Scherer was published by Harry N. Abrams in 1994. The first professional, glossy, mainstream beading book to come into the hands of many in our community.
  • It successfully began to establish beadwork in the realm of fine art and presents an eye popping and mind-expanding array of modern beadwork from the minute to the monumental in stunning photography.
  • It also offers valuable reference material, not surprising because one of the authors, Alice Scherer, was the founder of the Center for the Study of Beadwork in Portland, OR.
  • My only regret is that the book was limited to seed beads, but that encouraged me to try to draw attention to designs working with larger beads in my own book: Beadazzled, Where Beads and Inspiration Meet.
  • The New Beadwork measures 9.5 x 9 inches with 112 pages, 127 color photos, many diagrams, important appendices, and an index.
