- Red sunrise colors with black, these each measure 31x12mm
- Although it's rare to find two identical Tom Boylan beads, these are very close, except that overall one is a little darker than the other.
- Tom generally resisted any special orders or any required specifications for his beads, but in this case the size of the order must have been too tempting.
- These came from a San Francisco Bay Area designer's collection and I'm posting several more in different shapes and sizes.
- Self-taught, reclusive, Northern California artist Tom Boylan was one of the earliest American bead-makers. An avid gardener and astrologer, his beads seem infused with both nature and the cosmos. They appeal equally to men and women, and were among the most popular we carried at our Beadazzled stores.
- Tom used borosilcate tubing as the base for his beads, adding dots and stripes. Then temporarily closing off one end, he blew into the tube to achieve the desired size and shape. As a final touch he gave the ends a twist.
- Sadly Tom left this earth in the fall of 2024. I hope he's somehow among the stars that meant so much to him.
