Description

  • A mini version of the Tuareg Khomissar pendant, strung with small (4 & 6mm) black onyx beads and Indian sterling silver ovals & rondelles.
  • The necklace is 18 inches long with a 3 inch extender chain, bringing the maximum length to 21 inches with a small silver lobster claw clasp
  • The pendant represents a protective amulet traditionally handed down from mother to daughter. Original versions were made of five diamond shaped white shell pieces attached to leather. The five diamonds represent the four fingers and thumb of Fatima, the Prophet Mohammed's daughter. In this mini version the design has been simplified to 3 diamond shapes.
  • The Tuareg are nomads of the western Sahara desert and Morocco. Among them silversmithing is akin to magic and is practiced with great skill, artistry & soul.
  • Designer: Penelope Diamanti: World traveler, insatiable bead collector, entrepreneur (creator of the Beadazzled stores & this website), self-taught artist, teacher, writer, and cat lover.
  • Almost all of my work is one-of-a-kind (although I do like to work in series around color palettes). I string on soft flexible cable wire, preferring the Flex-Rite brand. I use only sterling or gold filled crimps. My favorite clasps are Indian Silver S-hooks or Bronze or White Bronze hook & eyes.
